Do you have avid fans of your shop who are bloggers?
You may, without even knowing it. Have you tried asking recently?
Then asking them to blog about your shop? Even going so far as to having your digital camera ready, so you can snap a few shots of her IN your shop and email them to her for use? (And in that email of course, you’ll have all the nitty-gritty details: address, contact info, url, hours, etc… right there so she can simply cut-&-paste into her blog entry.)
Just like with journalists, the easier you make it, and the more useful/ usable info you can give, the more likely you’ll get some notice, alert some new potential clients, and gain WOM.
You don’t want to pass this idea by.
It’s not going to make you rich…but it does help spread the word (and, if you have a site, your search-engine placement.) And you build your business contacts this way as well. Here’s some blog entries about great resale shopping experiences.
- About a shop in one of my favorite parts of the world.
- Bloggers whose topic is frugality are a natural (see HowToConsign.com Treasured Sponsor Tadpoles link here!)… as are “style” bloggers…and eco-centric bloggers…
- …but, really, even “life-style” bloggers need something to talk about!
- Even past coworkers might be interested in having a topic handed to them (or footed, I guess you’d say for this example!)
- Here’s a blog entry which didn’t even mention the store, but at least there was a link to it, so it’s better than nothing.
You can even ask your service providers, neighbor businesses, and so on if they blog, and if they would like to use your shop as an entry. Most bloggers would love to have an extra topic they hadn’t thought about.
Here’s a web site designer who helped spread the word about a consignment shop client. (And do any of your passionate shoppers or suppliers have a blog for their real-estate office, their bakery, their preschool business?)
Then, of course, you will return the favor
by mentioning her on your blog, linking on your site, tweeting or FBing about her blog to your readers…even make a nice framed sign for your foyer As seen at crazylady.wordpress.com by HomeTown blogger Jane “Crazy Lady” Jones.

Auntie Kate,
I was reviewing my blog “pingbacks” and found my link posted on your site as “a web site designer who helped spread the word about a consignment shop”.
Well, thank you!
I’m honored to be a part of your blog… particularly since it would seem I’ve set a good example!
Best to you,
Dawn
Dawn, Isn’t that what our mothers taught us? 😉 To always be a GOOD example? Tee-hee.
