Let’s say you’re at the absolute lowest point in your price markdowns at the end of a season or marketing cycle. How do you move the final dregs?
Maybe you’re thinking of a Dollar Rack or a BOGO event, or you are contemplating a 99-cent sale. Or a bag sale or a rack/ table on your sidewalk or in the basement. Thing is, you basically just want your customers to snag a bargain, you want to create traffic (so they’ll see your new incoming and shop that area too)…and you want to see someone get some use out of these clearance-sale leftovers.
Your end-of-the-end pricing might not be 99 cents…maybe it’s $5 or $10…. or even a quarter. Just imagine that it’s 99 cents for this poll.
What do you think would make last-ditch items sell the best and get your consignment, resale, or thrift shop maximum word-of-mouth?
[…] Back a while, we ran a poll on Auntie Kate the Blog. Here’s what consignment & resale shopkeepers thought about that end-of-season just get it out of my SIGHT clearance. See what you think. […]

How fun is that! I assume this is on high-ticket items mostly…. where it’s worthwhile to spend the time. Do customers get offended when you end up NOT taking their offer, even after a few back-and-forths?
We love our Let’s Make a Deal, Dot Sale, One Day Only. (Yes that is the name of the sale). We remove the markdown section of our tag. Then us a special “dot” (neon orange or smiley faces). The customer then Makes an offer on the item.
We have found that the customer will generally offer more than what our lowest price would have been. It is great fun and those deep discount shoppers love the “haggle”. Just a thought to pass on for a fun way to move the last of those items.
Oh, we are a furniture and home decor shop.
