What with all the recalls for dangerous toys, the cheap quality of cheap clothing, and the movement towards supporting local businesses… not to mention the “rebirth” of ecological concerns, more and more people are shopping secondhand and also doing their part in turning their cluttered closets into cash (yay, simplicity!)
You can check the HTC Clickable Map & Directory for a shop near you, or use the Yellow Pages.
The interest in two sites, Too Good to be Threw Products for the Professional Resaler which is designed for resale, consignment, and thrift shopkeepers and managers, and the consumer-oriented site HowToConsign.com, (with such articles as How to Shop for Back to School and The 10 Things you should ALWAYS Buy Used has really skyrocketed in the last six months or so.
Seems more and more people are seriously exploring the possibilities…anywhere from shopping for gently-used good items, to opening a business doing so! Right on!

Hi Val!
Rather than answer you in detail here, I’ve responded to your similar message on our Too Good to be Threw Sharing discussion board. See my thoughts at http://www.tgtbt.com/w-agora/list.php?bn=tgtbt_details and best wishes! You’re wise to research the industry before you jump in!
The exact reply is here, but the URL may be too long to simply click:

Is it possible to make a profit with the high cost of rental property?????
I’m a Special Education teacher currently on leave pursuing another career in which I’m able to do from home. I’m scheduled to return to teaching August 2007 but only want to return at last resort. Anyway, I have a 9 year old daughter who outgrows an entire wardrobe every year which is why I feel that a children consignment shop will be a great business in which I could start vs. returning to the classroom.
I know starting a business will be challenging and fun. But, can it be profitable as well.
I live in Tallahassee, Florida and rental property in this area is astronomical. Example $12-$15 per square foot was the cheapest rent I’ve come across so far and the location is not ideal. How can you make a profit when the rent is almost $5,000 plus all the other expenses that comes with running a business. Thank you! Val
