My favorite things, or, Kate as your personal shopper

October 2, 2007 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

One of the worst parts of being retired from the consignment business (besides not getting first dibs any more!) is that you see something PERFECT for a shop…and then remember that you don’t have a shop anymore.

So, I decided I’d start a new category here on the TGtbT blog: “My Favorite Things”. They’ll be stuff that, if I did still have a shop, I’d buy, get, copy, make in a heartbeat.

Today’s choice: Letters with hooks. Can’t you just SEE your shop name spelled out behind your sales counter, with something wonderful hung from each letter? Or a, b, c, d as your dressing room “names”, with the right hook on each door, holding an irresistible outfit?

The hook, and the photo, are in the Sundance catalog. Similar hooks are probably available elsewhere for less (these are $8 each), but these are all steel, which means they will stand up to a lot of use in your shop. Tell Robert Redford I sent you. (Yeh, as if.)

    I love this topic.

Kate, remember when you found that great mannequin with arms on ebay? I’ve been kicking myself ever since for not ordering it. So this time I’m not going to be kicking myself – I’m ordering some “W”‘s from Bob.

    Kate,

What a wonderful idea. I had my shop name painted on the all behind my counter before I opened with a cute graphic that ties into my logo. Since going to Carolyn’s workshop on Branding I have been trying to get with my graphic designer an updated logo, so I will want to change the painted graphic on my wall. The letters with hooks are a great idea for that exact thing.

    Thank you for sharing.

    Julie

I love them! When we painted the shop a few weeks ago the motif we went with is the initial “O”. So behind the register all the way on the tippy top of the wall we have “O’s” of varying sizes, shapes materials and colors.
I love the idea too to spell out our name across the wall. It would be perfect for purses, signs, tea towels, pictures etc…
thanks Kate I like this feature a lot!
