The 52 Things Challenge: Do you DARE to take it?

July 27, 2008 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

A recent study came up with what, to me, is a call to action. The study said that the average American owns 52 things that, if they evaporated tomorrow, the owner wouldn’t miss.

As a career consignment shopkeeper, that number doesn’t shock me. In fact, I think it’s probably low. Why we all (including this career consignment shopkeeper!) give house space and attention to possessions we don’t care about is a bit of a mystery. So, like the good little mystery writer and researcher I am, I decided to de-clutter my life of 52 things in front of the camera. Maybe this will inspire you to do the same.

And once you’ve decluttered your life of underloved things, here’s how to pass them on to someone who’ll appreciate them.

You’re most welcome Tara. Now, what you need to do is push your suppliers in the right direction! Try a bag-stuffer at this change-of-season,
“daring” your clientele to “Take the 52 Things Challenge!” with a link to the page, which is http://HowToConsign.com/journal52things.htm
…that’ll get them started, and pre-educated!

You’ll be AMAZED at the interesting and salable items you’ll start receiving. And remember, it’s those unique goods that set your shop apart from the ho-hum “new” stores, isn’t it?

What a fun post! And inspiring! I just cleaned out and redecorated my master bedroom and found 10 kitchen sized trash bags of stuff that got moved out (some donated, some consigned, some sold), but I’ll bet I could still find 52 things just in my many cluttered closets.

Thanks for the push in the right direction!
