Spent some time this sleepy afternoon using the link in an earlier blog entry to my own site, Too Good to be Threw, as it appeared on the web 10 years ago (and HEY! Recognized some buddies from back then who are still around and active in resale! Hi, Kerri and Kitty and Deb McD!)
Here’s a tip from the archives contributed by a shopkeeper. The idea’s as original, fun, and inexpensive as it was 10 years ago.
I have finally hit upon a cute idea for advertising sales and other specials. We have a posable fabric covered manaquin that we use to display really great outfits. While I was out of town one weekend, my husband decided to
attach a sign to her hands with the tagging gun, and pose her right as people walk in the door. Everyone has commented on how cute it is and it always catches their eye. Now that spring has hit, almost, she stands outside my door and greets the customers as they walk in. I have had quite a few new customers since putting her outside. They have all said that they noticed the manaquin and came over to see what was tucked back in the corner. My store is in the least visible spot in the plaza. I would love to hear your ideas for bringing in local foot traffic. Newspaper and radio ads get to be too expensive.
Wouldn’t this shopkeeper from 1998 have given anything to be able to direct people to her web site, her blog, and so on? The opportunities we have in 2008 that didn’t work or even exist in 1998 boggles the mind! Are YOU using your 2008 opportunities wisely? Tell us how!
