So we boarded up and canceled school and stocked up on water and batteries (well, for me it was champagne and candles)… and Fay never became a hurricane. The wind was brisk and the skies were cloudy but we never even got rain yet alone the hurricane they were talking about.
With nothing else to do, around 11 we went to an office-supply store to pick something up. Of course they had no customers. The streets were almost empty. The store next door was plywooded up and dark. The grocery store on the way home was short-staffed in anticipation of no customers because of the hurricane.
Now you understand, poor SW Florida’s economy is in really bad shape right now. The loss of even a day or two’s income can be make-or-break for the entire month.
That’s why I was so delighted to receive, around noon, an email from a local restaurant… celebrating surviving Fay! Even if I don’t go there this evening, I’ll remember them more readily next time I decide where to go to dinner.
Talk about making hay while the sun is hidden behind clouds.
Do you have an email like this ready to send out? For you it might be a blizzard or an ice storm. What could beat an email to get folks in immediately, to put a rueful smile on their faces, to remind them of you? So soothing, stimulating, and satisfying their need to connect.
These immediate email campaigns are a blessing to resale and consignment shops. Do you utilize this easy, incredibly cheap and effective advertising medium? If so, why not prepare a similar message for your shop, all ready to use when the time comes? If not, what’s stopping you?
