Taking a Second Look »

Did you get this email from eBay?

November 18, 2008 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

computertoesThe subject line was

Your ebay name here, whoa, zero bids!

and the email was a sampling of items on eBay which had not received any bids and were close to their closing time.

I find this FASCINATING. Haven’t you, as a consignment and resale shopkeeper, often thought

Why didn’t anyone BUY this?

It’s cute, it’s stylish, and whoa, at final markdown, it’s a STEAL.

Wouldn’t it be great to TELL your email list and your blog readers about these nifty potential treasures once in a while? Something along the lines of

Look what you overlooked or Wow, can’t beLIEVE everyone MISSED these great items!

then list 3-5 really impressive items on their final days in your shop. If you can, photos will increase interest, but if you can’t, just right a few words, maybe something along the lines of

Terrific Rykiel knit 2-piece skirt set: The multiknit this talented (and expensive!) designer is known for, long sleeves, mid-knee skirt, size Small (we’d say about a size 6, maybe a 4)… retails at about $495, originally here at MyShop for $99, now marked down to…can you beLIEVE…$25!

For best results, choose to showcase items that will appeal to the widest possible target audience: the Coach bag, not the Coach pumps; the couch throw, not the twin blanket. And don’t forget to let your staff know exactly what’s going on!

This can be an ongoing blog entry or email campaign, if you like, perhaps every Friday to draw weekend visits… and is just ONE of my upcoming 99 Things a Resaler Can Blog (or email) About which will be available before the New Year at TGtbT.com

I think that is a great idea. I have often been in shops myself, and could not believe that something i found was still there. Afterall, I thought it was fabulous, why didn’t someone else? I will use this idea in my shop, as a monthly feature. thanks kate

[…] I receive, didn’t see a single shop take this idea and run with it. Possibly related posts: (automatically generated)Oldie but Better than Ever […]
