Taking a Second Look

November 20, 2008 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Note to consignment and resale shops of the home decor persuasion: Yuppie Decor will have you looking at some of your incoming a bit more positively. Look here for the fresh new face of previously-sat furniture. Maybe even a little inspiration to redo…

Amazing what some paint and fabric and a staple gun can do. Now, if only I’d redo the 1950’s “Florida room” chairs I bought at a yard sale for $2 apiece…two years ago!

(And doncha LOVE that what we called ‘ugly ’50’s decor’ just a few years ago is now called Mid-Century?)

This is recycling at its very best, and exactly what Kenny does – takes some old piece that’s destined for the wood pile and makes a treasure out of it with some paint and a staple gun.

Wish we could command the prices ‘Yuppie Decor’ does!

I LOVE THAT CHAIR!! I see that kind of stuff all the time in quirky Chicago home decor and vintage shops. I always think it’s funny b/c it’s stuff any “normal” resale shop would no thank you in a heartbeat, and there it is cute as can be in some shop with a $500 price tag. Love it.
