Got a blog for your resale or
consignment shop? Great! It’s a wonderful way to build connections with your loyal clientele, and a way to share information, ideas, suggestions and tips with both your regulars and with others throughout the Internet.
But has it been a while since you’ve made a message on your business blog? Is it because you can’t think of a thing to say? (Although I have never YET met a resale, thrift, or consignment shop owner who was lacking in interesting conversational gambits when face-to-face with a shopper!)
Blogging, which is literally FREE, exploits the biggest ADVANTAGE your shop has over “the big boys.” What’s that? Your personal touch. Think the employees of MegaMart care if a customer can’t figure out what to serve her dinner party guests for dessert? Would help a shopper find a cordial glass to replace the one she borrowed from her cousin, and broke? Tell a new mother how to get out formula stains, or a downsizing senior how to decide what to keep and what to pass on to others? All that, and more, you can do daily…on your blog.
You can do SO much on a blog, and so easily. Tell folks stuff. Direct them to other places on the web that they might find fun, amusing, and helpful. Promote your shop, your staff, an individual item you have for sale, and more.
In fact, I can list 99 Things for Resalers to Blog About. And I will, shortly, so keep an eye out at my web site for professional resalers, Too Good to be Threw (that’s TGtbT.com)
UPDATE JUNE 2012: Just imagine, had you heeded my advice 3 and a half years ago, you’d have many hundreds of blog posts for your potential and actual clients to read. But you wouldn’t have my “99 Things to Blog About” to help you… ’cause it’s making its debut this month at NARTS Conference. That’s right: 3 and a half years in the making. Boy, it’s gonna be kick-a##. Keep an eye out for its debut in the Too Good to be Threw Products shop. And hope I see ya at Conference, where I’ll be giving a free workshop on blogging to build business in your consignment, resale, or thrift shop!
