How does your resale shop rank?

February 13, 2009 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you place your consignment or buy-outright shop, and why?

  1. I could care less about my business, and it shows
  2. Gimme a break, I’m operating with drastic limitations
  3. Considering my area, the shop’s not bad
  4. Still working on the concept of “used doesn’t mean it’ll-do”
  5. I’m getting there as time and money and energy allow
  6. There’s still plenty I mean to do, but my shop’s okay
  7. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’ve got a plan to make it even better
  8. In general, my shop’s great. Got just a small area of things to work on
  9. I am darn proud of every aspect of my business
  10. I have the absolute best resale shop in the known universe

Go ahead. Be bold, be brave, be honest… and post your true thoughts on why you are ranking your business as you are. I double-dog dare ya.

See where I’d rank myself.

I would rate my consignment store as an 8. I have received first place in consignment stores in Lake and Sumter Counties two years in a row by Lake Magazine voters…….
There is always room for improvement and I am striving every day for a 9. I have the most awesome volunteers ever!!
I work long hours but love my store and thank God every day for allowing this to happen for me.

[…] 20, 2009 by Auntie Kate I’d rank my consignment shop as a 6 at the most. (Here’s the choices.) Choosing a 6 means I agree with this […]

I’d have to say my store is a 6.5, but my employees call it an 8.

I’d rate my store a 7 and I’m proud to do that. I moved into a much larger space about 3.5 months ago and we’re still fine-tuning things but the feedback from both customers and consignors is very positive.

I like what I’ve done with the store, I love the ‘feel’ of it but I know I can do more yet. I’ll never be finished. Like Kate said it’s a continium and I’ll keep striving to improve.

I consider myself a ‘recovering’ perfectionist so I often say I strive for perfection but settle for excellence. I have very high standards and see no reason why I should lower them for anything or anyone.

My main goal with the store (besides profit of course!!!!!) is to have it be a place where women come to celebrate themselves. A place where women laugh and have fun and accept themselves for who they are right now, not after losing 10lbs or receiving a botox treatment.

I love our shop and I give it a 7.5!
I am so proud of how it is progressing but there is still more to do.
We are finally on the cusp of what I had originally envisioned and our customers are loving it, notice the changes and want more.

I’d rate myself a 7. Every day when I walk into my shop I’m amazed again at what I (and God) have made.

With little retail experience I dove in and every day is an adventure. I love what I do and I love the challenge of constantly working to make it better. I don’t think I’ll ever have “arrived.” I guess I could agree with a rating of 9 as well, but I don’t ever want to get so proud of where I’m at that I stop planning to make it even better.
