Writing for a resale audience

June 13, 2009 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

I just realized it’sthanks, pack155.com! exactly 2 weeks before I have the honor and the privilege of presenting a workshop at NARTS Conference to my consignment, resale, and thrift peers.

The workshop’s titled Be OPEN: The ABC Guide to Success and the description I wrote is “It’s easy as ABC to make your shop all you’ve dreamed it could be. A is for ADAPT, ADOPT and AMEND all the incredible ideas available around you. B is for BELIEVING in your core principles. And C … It is for CREATION, making your shop more than Just Another Resale Shop. It really is as simple as ABC when you remain OPEN to the simplicity of success!”

Now mind you, I CHOSE this topic, and I WROTE the description, but still I am SCARED SILLY that no one will want to listen to me. I’ve been rehearsing, and refining my visuals, and scratching out extraneous stuff and penciling in stuff that all of a sudden I think the audience may need (those of you who were at my house last October for Flamingoville laughed that I already had a file going back then for this workshop!)

Sweat. Shiver. Worry and lie awake at night. Will I be able to help my peers make their shops more rewarding? Will they leave my workshop with some inspiring thoughts and tactics for their shops? Will I help them make their businesses be all they dreamed they could be?

On the other hand: Just 2 weeks from now, it’ll all be OVER. Someone hand me a Tanqueray and tonic. Skol: To Resalers Everywhere, even if they are with us tonight only in spirit!

The photo’s borrowed from pack155.com, a Cub Scout site. I couldn’t resist. Could you?

Patty, remind me, you’re the one in the cape in the photo, right? 🙂 I mean, who else could persuade a California girl like Kate Buck to visit Utah? (Just kidding, Utahans…your state would be perfect if it didn’t have all that rumpled-up land that one could fall off of if one were not careful…)

And Nancy, I’ll be in YOUR audience…won’t miss your workshop for the world: Creating a BUZZ for your business. You busy little bee, you!

    Kate:
I, too, am going through the same trials – but I think
about the “Bombay” and tonic and I’m right there.
See you soon and hope its not too hot! Thursday is on
with six or more of us from Oregn…. Wow.

I believe the answer to your question is “Yes” – They’ll be lined up to listen.

I’m sorry I won’t be in your workshop this time, Kate, but this next weekend, my dear friend and fellow resaler, Kate Buck, will be visiting the Wandering Wardrobe.

I plan to enjoy every minute with my friend, who, but for you, wouldn’t be visiting me. We’ll be raising our glasses to you, because in earlier workshops, you’ve caused us to leave with inspiring thoughts and tactics for our shops. You’ve helped us try to make our shops all we dreamed they could be. And I hope that we all paid attention in class.
