I have been thinking a lot lately about wabi sabi.
It’s the modern Japanese term for beauty or serenity that comes with age.
I think “the beauty” refers to lovingly-used goods and the aura they hold, whether a solid antique table whose prior users you love to imagine, or the well-broken jeans which are the most comfortable thing in your closet.
“The serenity”,
I guess, refers to the fact that there must be SOME compensation for not being able to sit with my legs tucked under me any more. Bah humbug, I say. And that’s (pun intended) OLD English.
