Flamingos Flying to Virginia…and avatars coming in for a landing.

March 8, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

The winner is #4, White Elephant, in TGtbT.com's Wacky WednesdayFlamingos in the Old Dominion: The results from Wacky WednesdayGiveaway are in, and our winner of this week’s prize, a flamingo flag, is Cynthia of White Elephant with three locations in Virginia. Congratulations, Cynthia, I’ll send the flag out with your order this week!

Hatch an avatar for your business: While you’re waiting to see what this week’s Wacky Wednesday topic is, why not get yourself an avatar to further your shop’s reach and recognition?

  • What’s an avatar? An icon (picture) used on Internet forums and other communities. It appears beside your name when you comment or post on a blog.
  • Why do I need one? It helps identify your posts on blogs and web forums and furthers the recognition of you or your business.

What I look like in blog comments and so on

  • How do I get one? Free and easy and it even comes with a movie!
  • Should I use my picture or my business logo? Either, depends…are you participating in forums, blogs as a representative of your business or as an individual. Avatars are linked to your email address, so if you use several email addresses, you can have several avatars/ identities (like, as Melodysmommy@wherever.com or bosslady@sheekbouteek.com).
  • Is this like the picture I use in Facebook? It can be but it doesn’t need to be. Plus, folks at Facebook tend to change their avatars there, and you don’t want to change the one you use in blogs. Repetition is the key.

Go get your avatar. It’s a lot more useful than that “quilt block” you get otherwise. Just one more way to get your business out there.

Wow! I won something Kate? Woohoo! Last thing I ever won was our 2nd grade, fire prevention week poster contest!

Can’t wait to stick my flamingo flag in a melting snow bank. Maybe they’ll melt faster!
