Wacky Wednesday: What do you LOVE about being a resale shopkeeper?

March 10, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Wacky Wednesday Free Giveaway for consignment and resale shopsIt’s Wacky Wednesday once again. A free giveaway for consignment, resale, and thrift shop owners/ managers.

And this week’s thought-provoking question, about which your comment makes you eligible for our free Giveaway, is:

What do you LOVE about being a resale shopkeeper?

Hey, it’s better than a poke in the eye… not to mention being a banker, an accountant, a teacher or a trick driver. Or at least we think it is! Tell us what the best part of running your own shop is and you could win TWO silver heart bracelets. One for you, and one for someone you love.

You become eligible for the drawing simply by commenting here, and it’s no harder than putting your 2-cents’ worth over at Sharing on the Premiere Site for Professional Resalers,  Too Good to be Threw.

SO: What do you like BEST about resale shopkeeping?

Read the rules for our giveaway. Your comment must be posted by midnight Eastern time Sunday March 14 and we must have at least 20 entries (so contact your resale buddies and ask them to enter too!)

Read previous Wacky Wednesday entries and GREAT responses from consignment, thrift, and resale shopkeepers.

I would have to say my favorite thing is the people. I have developed such good relationships while owning my shop. We have had some medical difficulties the last few years and our customers and consignors have been wonderful. My sister lost her husband in January. He had pancreatic cancer. People have come in to laugh with us and cry with us about Tom. This business rewards you with many great friends.

I can’t beleive I’m entering so late, didn’t even realize another Wed came yet. Time fly’s when your a resale shopkeeper too.

I seem to have a love-hate relationship with being a shopkeeper but I will only mention my loves.

    I love…

    being my own boss

getting new things in(the nice things that are brought in the way they are supposed to be brought in),

    feeling appreciated in the community

when that little girl runs in and gives me a hug and so proud to tell me…”Mrs Beth, It’s my Birthday today and I’m 4 now!” and when the mother tells me that this is the place she wanted to go to on the morning of her birthday to pick out her special gift.

and what I love most is feeling like I have really done something important in my life. Being a shopkeeper is the one thing that gets me up in the morning and keeps me going. I know that it can’t go on without me and my customers would be disappointed(if not worried) if I wasn’t there to open the shop.

Can we do the hates next week? That would be fun too, a little venting always feels good too.
