What’s on their minds? Marketing locally

April 26, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Local celebrations are worth sleuthing outWhether you blog, email, Tweet, Facebook or simply do your darndest to keep your web site up-to-date and relevant, keep in mind

what your viewers are thinking about today.

That’s not always easy….after all, we are, each and every one of us…unique individuals…but there are still some things that bring us together. It’s worth finding out, and planning for, local events and festivals that your potential customers are thinking about.

Maybe it’s Rodeo Days. Maybe it’s Mother’s Day. Maybe it’s the local Lawnmower Races. No matter.

Point is, your audience is thinking about the upcoming holiday.

So use that distraction to your marketing advantage.

  • Blog about how great capris look on a lawnmower contestant or pit-crew member. Or the plastic dinnerware you have that’ll work at the picnic afterwards.
  • Twitter about the glitzy belt buckles you have that would look bitchin’ at the rodeo. Or the cute little vintage cowboy outfit you have in stock.
  • Is there a concert your target market wants to attend…and will need a hot outfit for?
  • Send an email about your 82 hot-pink cocktail dresses in all sizes for ladies in the Grande Finale of the Podunk Follies Amateur Show (this actually happened to me.)

Talk about Shop Local. This is Market Local.
