Jessica’s Place… Consignment with Style and Heart

May 12, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Come along with me on a whirlwind visit to our fellow Sharing board participant’s shop in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island in Florida. I was able to visit this resale shop with a heart during a consultation on the island with another resale shop (which I’ll write about soon!) and wanted to share with you Jessica’s shop and some of her thoughts on our industry.

Jessica has owned Fifi’s Fine Resale Apparel for quite some time now. She has a licensing agreement with the Fifi’s ownership, but other than that, her shop is totally her own.

Jessica's building was lavender...but thanks to her husband Rick (you've probably met him at Conference) it's now a sunny clear yellow! They share the building with a hair salon. Perfect match for their recent "Win a MakeOver" promotion!

Enter into the shopping spirit in Jessica's entryway...

What greets you as you open the door to Jessica's little consignment cottage. Ignore the man in the mirror. Don't you love the celebratory feeling of this entry?

Jessica, Consignee Extraordinaire, and the cookie-bakin' grandma!

You can see where proprietor Jessica Miller gets those mischievous eyes...from her cookie-baking Grandma, whose chocolate/coconut meringues are worth the trip!

The Designer Nook in Jessica's consignment shop

This is how MUCH Jessica loves her shop: every button is buttoned, every zipper zipped. Every corner of this shop is neat, clean and intriguing.

Lessons learned from Jessica's shop

Here's what I learned from Jessica: Each dressing rm had a sample shop bag in it. The note tells that the bag is $1.99, and every time they bring neatly-folded items in for consignment in it they get $1 credit. Each time the bag is used to carry purchases they get $1 off. Lesson #2: Layering rack toppers with irresistible goods sells a LOT of complete looks. Lesson #3: Chrome standards not in current use can be disguised as a little ivy tendril.
