October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

August 19, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Consignment shops helping Breast Cancer AwarenessIf you want to address this issue through your consignment, resale, or thrift shop, it’s crunch time to start planning. How can you increase awareness, raise the visibility of the cause and your shop, and serve your clientele all at the same time?

One idea: Create Tickled PINK Customers.

The shop makes a donation to Breast Cancer for every customer who’ll pose in a shop outfit, or holding up the wonderful buy she found (vase, baby outfit, necklace, rocking chair, whatever) at your shop for a quick digital photo to be posted in a FB Thrift shops help cancer awareness with Tickled Pink Photo Promotionalbum or on your blog or web site. This can be anonymously… head cut off, from the back, etc… if customers are shy. It would be SUPER to have a large sign as a backdrop to these shots, saying MyShop Helps Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Or you could even make a little audience participation event out of it. Guess who the anonymous shopper is, or vote on who got the buy buy, via social media and in-store balloting. The shop again donates a small amount to your chosen breast cancer charity for each vote…so people spreading the word about your contest are helping the charity as well as your shop.

What will your resale customer find to be Tickled Pink about?

Just one way you can raise funds, awareness, and the community profile of your business. What can YOU come up with?

Since I read about this idea on your board last October I have been waiting to put it in place and we are ready to go for this year:
    Bling A Bra!

We are seeking corporate and private submissions of “blinged out bras”…$25.00 per entry, and then you send your ‘people’ in to vote, $2.00 vote for your fave bra…all money to ‘support’ breast cancer research….should get people in to the store to vote, and hopefully raise some money!
