Mind your mummy…Mind your money.

September 29, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

You have enough to do right now without worrying about windows.

You know that cliche “I don’t do windows”? Well, you may be tempted to say that right about now, as the weather cools and both sales and incoming sky rocket. Kate to the rescue: How about a shop window that you can do once and leave in place for the whole, crazy-busy month of October?

Simply make a mummy, and a big sign that says

Mind your mummy…Mind your money.

Mind your mummy and mind your money: perfect slogan for resale in October!

Your mummy can be a mannequin wrapped in old white sheets or gauze, or a “life”-sized poster board cutout attached directly to your window glass (tip: use those glue dots they sell for scrapbooking, not scotch tape. They disappear (kinda like a ghost, ho ho.)

Eye-catching, easy to do, and word-of-mouth worthy. In other words, everything a busy shopkeeper needs at this time of year (except a secret stash of chocolate.)

You can even use this as a theme for Halloween treats and a month-long “added value” promo, like the shop below. BooBucks works too, and it’s even easier to drape rather than wind your mannequin. Signage? Give your budget a GHOST of a chance by shopping MyShop

Here’s a note from a childrenswear shop:We just had a staff meeting today and we remembered that last year we gave one “mummy money” to all the trick or treaters who came to the house (staff did, friends did in their neighborhood). They were just printed 10 to a page $1.00…no strings attached; we put an exp. date on them though. We also did a promo during the month of Oct. at the store where you could earn the mummy money, I think it was one for every $10.00 spent. That was a huge hit.

I am pretty sure this was Kate’s idea, BTW. Could be from one of her many wonderful products you can order! Maybe they were referred to as Boo Bucks or something, but we went with mummy because that was our window theme. Our little mannequins were so cool wrapped in toilet paper and our window said, “Mind your mummy.”
