Tiny Tweaks Big Results

February 3, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Resale is a production...and you're ALL the crew!Big snowdrifts and low temperatures

mean consignment, resale, and thrift store owners have plenty of thinking time right now. How about the tiny tweaks that bring the biggest results? Some ideas:

Can you use your software to its fullest extent? Not unless you can tell me, within 3 minutes, how Brand A sells as compared to Brand B. Or how many items you sell before 1st markdown…etc etc. Now might be a good time to roll up your sleeves and get into all that.

Got a nice, friendly how to consign/sell/donate brochure? Is it in several places around your shop?

In my experience, less than 1 in 10 shops have this.

Expand accepting hours? (really, nothing after 4? So she can’t drop by on her way home from work, he can’t combine his consigning with his run to the grocery?)

Buyers’ fees up by a dime? Figure out how many pieces you sold last year. How much money would that have made you…and

where could you spend that money to make MORE money?

Fresh Swiftach needle. It’s amazing, how much harder some resale shopkeepers work…just because their needle (and cutter, as RIck will tell you) is dulled.

There. That should keep you busy til Spring. Anyone else have tiny tweaks they’ll be working on while business is slow or non-existent?
