SNOOZE ALARM 3: Over-modest, self-limiting… & rodent-infested.

SNOOZE ALARM: Really really
boring ways to say things

There comes a time (with luck!) in every consignment, resale, thrift shop, when you are simply over-stocked in something and you need to let your clientele know it to drive sales in this particular area. Could be toddler clothes, sofas… or as we see in this next example of really really boring ways to say things…

Too much red and purple.

Here’s the tweet or short Facebook posting I feel could be so much more effective in 3 ways:

If there are any red hat ladies listening we are over run with red and purple hats, boas, & accessories

I’d suggest, for starters:

“A wide and wonderful selection of…”

Why not BRAG? Then, I would eliminate the unappealing and negative image of “over run.” Sounds like you have a vermin problem. Not the image you meant to project.

And third: why limit the announcement to Red Hat Ladies? Sure, you can mention it…but goodness knows, any shopper who is not of a certain age might still be interested in much of that merchandise… so how about:

Wide & wonderful selection of vividly-colored fun accessories at MyShop: some even in red & purple!

That message will motivate a lot more folks, don’t you think? And the Red Hat Ladies will still get it.

Here’s Part 1 and Part 2 of SNOOZE ALARM.
