Slow in your #consignment, resale, thrift shop?

June 30, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Here’s something that could REALLY lead to WOM!

Recycle a secondhand mannequin into a talking point for your consignment shop.

Make a mannequin mosaic. You don’t have to use found objects or mirrors or tiles. I’ve seen wonderful mannequins decoupaged with newspapers, cancelled postage stamps, fabric… heck, I’ve even seen wonderful mannequins painted in great ways.

You don’t have to have even a WHOLE mannequin…

an arm, leg, hand or head works too. Even one of those 3D hanger forms. Nor do you have to mosaic/ decorate the entire mannequin. Get your imagination revving!

Mannequins aren’t only for women’s resale shops. Imagine one holding receiving blankets (Mother Earth?) or sparkling in a Mid-century room vignette.

I love this company. I only know them through their Internet persona, which is a whole nother topic, yes? Here’s some more ideas to get you started:

A partially-decorated mannequin from ideajump.wordpress.com

One arm? No problem: feathers, furs, point the way to that INCREDIBLE... what? Sectional? Antique desk? The rest room?

Mannequin head, altered for word of mouth

I wouldn't personally choose this one, but it might work for your consignment, buy-outright, or thrift shop.

Some fake flowers, spray paint, and "makeup"....

Start small in your consignment shop: decoupage a head!

Mosaic too challenging? Decoupage a head. This one at savvysheitels.com is $60.

Dress form with chain belts... great for consignment shops!

Still intimidated? This idea is from marthastewart.com and even I could do it before my morning latte. It's the pink bow that makes it.

Sorry, Stacey, but of course, the blog with its almost-1000 entries and the hundreds of articles & free tips, and my Twitter and Facebook accounts for me, TGtbT.com & HowToConsign.com as well as the many Products for the Professional Resaler, and the opportunity to showcase your shop to consumers on http:// HowToConsign.com, are taking up 100% of my time. Hope to see your comments on the blog and your shop on HTC as soon as possible! I know fall is such a BUSY and PROFITABLE time of year!

Love that steampunk crackle warrior princess! I’m having a hard time with creativity right now ~ short on time and long on to-do’s makes for boring shop displays. Thanks for the poke in the right direction Kate!
