Should consignment shops give receipts? Our consignors don’t need itemized and priced receipts for what they bring in.

Agree? Disagree? Explain.

We give a drop and run reciept at FiFi’s with the # of items left. Once the items are priced and entered into our system, we email the consignor a listing of their items. Our customers like this feature we offer.

We printed item lists for years and years. One year ago we stopped and very fewconsignors noticed or seemed to care. Saves us paper and time. Of course if a consignor asks we print one pronto but the sold items are listed on their check stubs. My store is 30 plus years old and hopefully they feel that they can trust me. I think it was harder for me to give up the paper copy than my consignors. Just my two cents

We give a inventory list when there come in and bring there clothes , we give back right away the items we don’t except. This year we had a few new clients ask for a printout once we enter the items in the computer then we mail it to them.

We only give inventory lists when consignors request them after their items have been entered into our inventory system. We carry women’s and children’s items and often get multiple bins of items in at a time.

I think it’s nice to receive an inventory sheet but not always necessary. We always give consignors an inventory sheet whenever we set up a new account or when consignors are waiting around for there items. Otherwise, we give them out when they are asked for; which isn’t that often.

Itemized receipt. I got screwed so many times at consignment stores before opening our store; and then at BOR store I thought they were giving me a low ball offer without telling me what my stuff was really worth. So we offer itemized list and we are a children BOR store – and we do receive clothes by the buckets…

Our consignors do need an itemized list of what they bring in and how we priced them. At the rate that things are brought in, we aren’t able to price them at that time. They are encouraged to make their own list before they come in and then check it against the online site in a few days or come back in to get a printout. Very few people ask about a receipt.

To the person who wasn’t sure about having an online consignor site; It has cut way back on the phone calls. My consignors love it. It costs me $10 a month to free up my employees to do other things. Well worth it.

We will print or email a receipt with their items consigned and the price plus the pick up date. Our customers like the idea that we can price their items immediately. We encourage emailing, however, we have several clients that do not have email. We are a furniture and home decor shop. We try to cut our expenses by emailing. Once we go to online access for their accounts we will only print receipts for those that do not have online access.

We asked people for two years if they wanted a receipt ( or should

we save the paper). Very few wanted a receipt so we stopped printing them unless requested. Most people only want to get rid of stuff. They already have too much to keep track of in their lives

Our contract /receipt is one document – receipt lists category totals (shirts = 10, shoes = 5 pair…) Once all items entered, will E-Mail list, print one out or even mail it — by request. It’s a handful of people who want the list, but heck, if they want it, I’m happy to provide it. We don’t have on-line access yet — I’m on the fence because of problems noted on different message boards. So we still cheerfully field the phone calls! I simply do not have the staff or the setting to individually list items and prices at the time of the drop-off.

On the fence with this one! We don’t currently provide a reciept when items are left for consignment. I’ve thought about doing this, but, the extra work and time involved doesn’t make sense to me yet. (I’m opened to change my mind on it) It’s rare we get ask for one…….if they do, we let them write down what we are keeping.

We provide a summarized receipt when we take in their items. (2 coach purses, 6 jeans, 3 skirts etc. ) And they are invited to have a detailed print out after the items are entered into the computer and priced. Going on our second year, there are only a handful of people that have ever asked for that print out.

We email an itemized list once their items are entered into our inventory. They have online account access and can see the prices of the items online. We’ll have a person every 4 to 5 months or so write down what we’re taking when we accept it. But with children’s clothes, toys, books, we are taking so many items from a person at one time that we do not count them for them when they bring them in. We do send the itemized list though to every consignor who provides us with an email.

I love the Saige Consignment Boutique answer. I’ve just opened my first consignment shop and I’m still in my first 30 days so I’m really enjoying this website. I would love to offer the same online acess to my consignors. Could you let me know what software package you’re using? Thank you in advance.

I used Liberty 4 from resaleworld.com. I’ve been very happy with it!

I’m in children’s consignment so we get stuff coming in by the BUCKETS. If they consign, I can print them an itemized receipt if they want one – VERY few people want one. For BO, nope. It’s me and a calculator and two buckets. One for keepers and one for NTYs. I can show them what I’m keeping and tell them what I’ll pay for it. It would take me too long to do the itemized receipt for all the BOs. I know some places do, but I don’t ever plan to be one of them!

My consignors appreciate having control over their accounts and offering an itemized receipt allows them to do that. I give a handwritten summary receipt for anyone that asks for it at the time of drop off. After the items have been put in the system, they can also request an itemized receipt be emailed to them. I only do it upon request though and there are only a few that request it. My consignors also have online access to their accounts which shows them when something has sold and how much it sold for, as well as the total amount in their account. Perhaps it’s not a necessity but it definitely helps build trust between the business and the consignors.

I disagree. My Consignors trust me because I give them an inventory list and a thank-you note.
