A kangaroo hops into your consignment shop…

September 6, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

…or maybe a raccoon wanders into your resale shop or a turkey trots into your thrift shop…

and hands you $1000.

Then she says: You can spend this on anything you think will make your shop better.

What will it be? How would YOU spend $1000 on your store to make it better?

Tell us where YOU think one thousand dollars could be best spent.

I’d buy my exterior signage; I’ve been only a little more than two months and the least expensive quote I’ve gotten to date is $1,600.

I’d definitely buy consignment software. I do everything manually, and software would speed up the whole process as well as produce reports that I don’t have time to do now,

no doubt, advertising. i would take out a nice page in our local paper. the last time they did a skit on our shop in the local paper, we did 3 x the business.

I would sign up for an online selling website, and I would hire a high schooler part time in the afternoons to just tag and hang the multitude of incoming STUFF! I cannot believe how much stuff is coming in every day. It’s been 17 years–you’d think I’d get used to it!

Upgrade computers…4 years old is too old for computers.

Thanks, Carolyn, Bonnie, Betsy and Tina!
What an interesting array of CHOICES. C, what don’t you like about your web site…what would you do differently? Bonnie, what makes shelving “better”? Betsy, we turned an “island” office in a shop into a half-walled “designer” section… maybe something similar for you? And Tina… what are you thinking when you say “out-of-site” storage? Closets, lockers, etc?
Ladies, we’d love to hear your “ideal solutions”….

Fun and funky ways to display items in the store. More out of site storage.

Oh my, I would paint and get a new sign out front! Or remove my office (which is like a box in the middle of the store) and have more floor space- but no office and very little storage. I guess its good there is no turkey, raccoon, or kangaroo in my store today! 🙂

I would buy better shelving. I spent about that much this summer on new paint and racks, but could definitely spend another grand!

    I would redo my website.
