Some one else’s back room is worse.

September 18, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Trust me. If you are despairing of your back room, someone else has it worse. Here’s a shot I took of one back room. Scariest thing about this shot?

They knew I was coming.

Your back room isn't this bad, is it? says Kate Holmes of TGtbT.com

There, now don’t you feel better?

Things COULD be worse.

I know am responding to an old post, but I was wondering if you have any ideas or examples of good ideas for a back room. We are in the building stage – what would be important additions or container systems to include.

Hi Mia, and thanks for your interest. Do you have your copy of Too Good to be Threw Complete Operations Manual handy? Back rooms are discussed in Chapter Six: Am I ready to open? Best wishes with your new shop!

I hope you were coming to give them a pep-talk and some practical advise on how to store and process things in a way that helps them get out from under all that inventory.

Thanks for sharing and inspiring us each and every day!

Thanks – I do feel a bit better – mine’s bad – but I can at least maintain a path to the back door.

FOFRALMBO!!!! I have to show this to my employee! I have apologized to her about the back room since she started working for me. My 8 yo daughter patted me on the shoulder and said “Your’s doesn’t look THAT bad.”

I have been so worried about loosing someone’s things. I would love to know how other stores keep up with the back room. Thanks for sharing this Kate, and thanks to the store that allowed us to see what goes on behind closed doors. 🙂

I know my husband is a little afraid that my back room will be just as bad! Of course since we don’t have a store yet (sign a lease next week hopefully!), my dining room has similar piles….but I am pricing and boxing it all up within a 3 day turnaround….which is good for me! Thanks for letting us see how others work – I always like to see it worse than me 🙂

Thanks Tara and Kindra, You know, I was thinking just the other day how it was a real BLESSING that I had ZERO back room for the first 9 years of my business. Taught me to get every darn thing taken care of, one way or the other, before 10am the next morning. Well it wasn’t really NO back room space. We hung the layaways by the furnace (I know, I know but God looks after fools, right?) and we did have space for a single bundle of bags and a box or two of tags, one hanger stacker.

Yes, I do. But, I am jealous of the amount of space they’ve got. More shelving required I’d say.
