Turn them into a community fundraiser… and a consignment shop awareness raiser as well.
Connie Carson, a consignment shopkeeper I had the pleasure to meet with here in Sarasota before she opened her shop, does buyouts of surplus merchandise for resale… including, one day, 75 pink bras.
What to do with them? Create a fundraiser for breast cancer, natch.
She charged $5 to get a bra to bling, and is offering the public a chance to vote on the creations displayed in her shop, in return for a $1 donation to her local hospital’s breast care center. She’s helping her community and introducing new shoppers to her store.
Is this like turning pink bras into pink lemonade?

Great Idea! I set a goal and we actually hit it this past weekend! I would love for this to be even bigger next year!
I’ll keep you posted on the final fundraising totals after this weekend!

Thanks Kate!! I have had such a good time with this fundraiser!! I’m not sure exactly how I’ll do it next year because I got such a great deal on the bras the first time! But everyone in our little strip center wants to participate next year!! What a hoot!!
Wouldn’t it be interesting… to contact major bra manufacturers, ask them to put aside any pink bras that are overstock/ irregular, etc… for a bling the bra event, through resale shops, next October? The contest could be “sponsored by Maidenform, Wacoal” whatever… could be a great year-long project for a small group of consignment, resale, thrift shopkeepers…
Now all you have to do is find a supply of bras, Sharon! Hope you found time to drop a thank-you note to Connie… she’s a real sweetie.
This is a great idea. The Breast Cancer Fundraiser in our town is a huge event. I’m going to borrow this idea for my store for next year. Thanks
