Hi katie..I’ve been thinking about starting a Consignment Shop for many years and now I think I can do it!! My question to you is, two-fold: I will be moving to the Dallas area from the SF area in about 6 months, and so I will not have many connections to get me started, the other concern I have is there are at least 2 other franchise consignment shops and I’m wondering if a franchise is more of a threat, because of the on-line support, but also being mindful of all of the upfront expense and rules you must follow because it’s really not my own business..What are your thoughts?

Hi Melissa, thanks for your comment. You THINK you can do it? I hope you KNOW you can do it!
Of course, local knowledge is a BIG step forward. I don’t see “franchises” being your stumbling block per se, but the established, trusted, well-run shops of any sort. I am sure that you will thoroughly investigate how your new market is currently being served, and what you can do to make your shop stand out. Find a need and fulfill it… and let the public know that you ARE fulfilling it.
That’s my best thought! Let us know how you are progressing,
      Kate
