I ran across a nice beginning to a blog the other day, and decided to delve in a bit further to see what’s going on.
Once Upon a Zipper is the blog. Cute design, nice entries, great ideas. Still feeling its way to being a complete blog, but imagination and image branding well on its way.
Then I read the blog’s About Page and stopped by their Twitter account. What a cute sign in that background image!
Actually, the best sign I’ve seen for a consignment shop in years.
Over to the shop’s Facebook page. Click through the Profile Pictures album. Don’t you love the mannequin series… and look, there’s the red purse agin!
After poking around a bit (perhaps more than a casual viewer would? Info not very front and center…) I got to the shop’s web site. Innovative, perhaps, but not very informative or useful.
The site’s clever but not terribly useful… perhaps the site hasn’t changed since it was created in 2005, because there’s no reference to social media. If you “found” the shop site, you’d have no idea about its Facebook and Twitter communications. If you found the blog, the only mention of the shop name is on the About page, without a link, and what city is this shop in? You’d have to find the very first post for that. The Facebook account does have an active link and the city on the Info page, but let’s face it… most folks don’t bother clicking on the Info page.
So many great ideas… but alas, not a lot of focus. I love the red purse, I love the mannequin series, I love the various ways to use/ wear the shop’s wares… but the shop’s image is all over the place.
It’s as hard to choose one’s image/ brand. focus as it is to choose a spouse… but all in all, it’s better to stick to one. Image or husband.
