A consignment chain has published a press release which will not endear them to their resale peers. I’ve highlighted the questionable passages for you at http://awurl.com/X7UxTNe8c
Now, I have nothing against this company. In fact, they do several things right, and they are successful. I’ve even admired some of their practices. But
dissing not only one’s new neighbors and misrepresenting the industry as well
in their efforts to boost the perception of their business is not going to make for warm fuzzies, methinks.

Yes, attention from the press is great. But i agree Kate they could have been more careful with making disparaging remarks about consignment stores at large. This does give more fuel to the would be consignors that have had a bad experience. Hard also to believe that there are no other high end consignment stores in San Diego! Yikes! Do it right yourself but don’t speak badly of others.
That’s what got my attention, Tara… knowing that there are some terrific shops in the San Diego market. Perhaps I was too harsh in my critiques, but this conversation we’re having points out something we all would do well to recognize: THIS IS NOT PRESS ATTENTION, this is a press release. Seeing how even we, experienced business people, regard this as though it were editorial, “3rd-party” endorsement attention, might just stimulate some to spend some more time on press releases. So, all in all, lesson well-learned!
I too didn’t see anything to get upset about. The fact that they’re receiving attention from the press is good for all resale stores…let’s celebrate success!
I saw nothing major with what they said. Let’s not try to break apart each others every word. They are tooting their own horn and that’s nothing different than I have seen most everyone do in this industry.
Thanks, Betty, I may have been over-reacting here. Only had one cup of coffee this morning!
