Dangerous Products: Spread the Word

November 2, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

This is a "snapshot" of the CPSC widget.

This is what your CPSC widget will look like.

If you have a web site or blog, there’s a simple way to add customer service in minutes with a product recall widget directly from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. You can use the “all products” alert or the child-related version.

What the widget will look like on your site is on the left of that page; the code you need is on the right. If you do not keep up your own site, send this info to your webmaster.

Keep your customers, and your merchandise, safe.

What’s a widget?

I’m so torn about this! One one hand, I love giving people the safety info and hope they would be grateful that we are looking out for them but on the other hand, I hesitate to suggest that buying previously loved items might in any way be dangerous ~ like maybe a subliminally negative message?

Idk but maybe it’s less for me, since we carry furniture, than for the baby/kids/thrift shops and they should be the ones to chime in here 🙂

Well, if you are a furniture store, there’s probably NOT a lot of recalls on the merchandise you carry.
Have you thought about the opposite approach, educating folks how USED is BETTER than new?
Here’s a tidbit I turned up in 30 seconds using Google to get you thinking: “New furniture … It takes time for fresh paint or varnish to stop emitting formaldehyde and other toxic fumes. Furniture made of particle board or plywood emit particularly high levels of formaldehyde for years due to the outgassing of glue in these products”
      Just a thought!
