Are you going to NARTS Conference in June?
Whether you are or you aren’t, I want .
you, this week, to go down the street, across town, around the corner and talk to your competitors. Yes, even those that you don’t think really ARE competition, because their shops need so much improvement.
In fact., I want you to go to those shops ESPECIALLY.
Why? Because their shortcomings are taking money out of your pocket.
It’s not that I particularly want your competitors to go to Conference. That would be nice, of course, but it’s quite a commitment of time, energy, and money. But I DO think that you should help your competitors every day, and “Are you going to Conference?” is a good ice-breaker.
I’d be just as happy if you’d simply persuade your competition to buy a handful or more of my Products for the Professional Resaler. Point us,
You NEED the best competition you can get. Heck, you DESERVE it.
Read why you should help your competitors be better.
Then read the rest of the articles in the Too Good to be Threw Archive. (After all, you do want to keep one step ahead, tee-hee.)

Hi Kate,
I would love to come to the conference as well, however all my funds are going to my new store I am opening late this summer. As an owner of a video production company, I can tell you that there is a much easier and more cost effective way than hiring a production company to video tape and burn DVDs for you.
With a laptop, webcam and an Internet connection you can live stream classes directly to the Internet as well as archive the classes for people to be able to download later. Don’t want to give it away for free? No prob. There is a way around that as well. If you would like to know more about this I am happy to help. If someone from Narts would like to sponsor me and my husband to come to the conference, I would be willing to set this up and video it for you at no charge.
I know you said you are no longer on the board, just thought I would throw the offer out there. My husband and I have been traveling the country covering boat racing events and live streaming them to the Internet for the last 5 years. We have got this down!
I am opening a new consignment store this Aug. I love your site!
Kerri
Great that you’re so proactive, Kerri. Let us know what happens when you contact NARTS with your proposal.
And, just me giving unsolicited advice (again; it’s my worst fault): If you are opening in August, I guarantee that you will MAKE in added profits TEN times the expense of attending Conference, just between an August opening and the end of 2012 (yet alone the rest of your business’ life span.) I think that quite a few of my readers/ those who have experienced Conference would say amen to that!
Thanks Kate,
Do you know who would be the best person to contact to offer my service?
Thanks!
Kerri

Kate: was hoping to attend again but really cannot travel due to family (3 kids ages 4 and under now). Would you talk with the conference committee about videotaping sessions for playback by members please? It won’t be the same as being there but would still be useful. -Sharon from Little Green Beans
Thanks for the confidence in my ability to influence others, Sharon! I have zero say-so nowadays, alas.
Years ago, when I was on the board, we did audio tape every workshop… frightful expense, and the potential consumers for these I don’t think ever covered the costs. Imagine the costs of this, imagine the potential market… simply doesn’t match up.
But as you know, I always post the handout and any visual aids I use for my workshops on my site for a little while after Conference. I’m not aware that any of our other speakers do, but you might contact them and ask. Let me know if they do, since when I’m presenting, that means there’s some great workshops I don’t get to go to!
Thanks Kate! I will look for your conference presentation notes and others’ as well. -Sharon
