The higher gas goes, the better this promo will be!

April 5, 2012 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Worth a trip from anywhere, aren’t we? Darn straight.

Resale Makes My Heart Race! Courtesy HowToConsign.comOur consignment, resale, and thrift shops pride ourselves on being worth not only a trip from anywhere…

but many frequent trips. But the problem is: the price of gas grabs headlines and impacts the choices customers make.

How about fighting this with gas gift cards? You could give them as a premium with purchase, award them randomly or with intent (first 10 customers on a slow day?), even use them as prizes in a drawing or contest.

“Stock up for summer and we’ll buy your gas!”

“Have a gas re-doing the family room and we’ll give you the gas!”

“Vroom vroom…”

Not to mention, a well-worded press release to your local media moguls emphasizing “saving money two ways” and the evergreen “shop local” angles should get you some editorial attention.

Explore the possibilities:

  • Shell
  • Chevron
  • Exxon

You can, and should, of course, talk to your local gas station owners as well. In fact, if you buy a reasonable number of cards from them, they’d have a profit motive for advertising your shop in their businesses.
