Stunned. Really, you DON’T have a web site?

August 19, 2012 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Your consignment, resale or thrift shop doesn't have a web site?I was cruising the web today (really, just putting the PRO in procrastinator) when I realized there are still resale, consignment and thrift shops who do not have web sites. (Or maybe, they just can’t be found on Google?)

Really?

Especially love your “Fun Finds” page, makes me smile! How much does this cost you for hosting, if you don’t mind sharing?

A website is a must. I had a website up from day one. I can’t tell you how often customers come in to say they found us on the web. I’m currently working on improving our site by adding an “about us” page and also a video. Other social media musts include: a blog, MerchantCircle page, Facebook and Twitter.

That’s great. I searched for and found your Merchantcircle page… looks like it has nice options, and you have 11 reviews, averaging 5 stars! Good on ya! Do you find mc better at drawing customers than Yahoo Local? (Watch me as I “embellished” Fifi’s Amelia Island Yahoo page a while back) https://auntiekate.wordpress.com/2010/05/17/now-lets-tend-our-consignment-and-resale-gardens/

Just starting my consignment shop, plan on opening in a week, web-site being developed. I know that a website is a must have! keep watching.

Here’s to your success, Debbie. It’s a busy time for you, I know, but I suggest one more task: getting your social media up and running TODAY. That means a fan page for the business on Facebook, and messages on it that go directly to a blog, where you can “introduce” yourself and your business, and let folks feel like they are a part of your exciting new venture.
Take advantage of their curiosity and their desire to be part of the “in” group, and they will help you with incredible word-of-mouth from Day One. More thoughts on blogging are on our Blog page, and of course, if you choose the tag “blogging” here on MY blog, I believe you’ll get as excited about blogging as you are about shopkeeping!

I’m working on mine also, I hope to have it up by the end of the month.

Well, up until just recently, I was in the no presence category. I’ve been working my tail off to get a website, facebook and constant contact up and running and can tell you it IS a LOT of work. I really hope that the long term pay off will make it all worth my while.
