Home decor on consignment: Tropical isles of delight

September 21, 2012 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

A guided tour of  a home decor shop named The Treasure Chest in Punta Gorda FL. One of the many reasons I love living on Florida is the abundance of consignment, resale, and thrift stores. Follow me around as I show you some great ideas from this shop! (Click on any picture for a closer look.)

Stenciled bench serves as a landmark for this furnishings consignment shop in Punta Gord FLThis shop didn’t have its name on the facade of the shopping center, but cruising past, we easily spotted the metal bench stenciled with Consignments.

Signage on this home decor/ furnishings consignment shopAh, yes, we’re in the right place, a notice board tells us.

Florida casual in a home consignment shopFirst thing we see, fittingly enough, is a Florida casual vignette. Gathering decor pieces from around the shop to accent this settee set makes each and every piece more appealing and tempting!

Cluster of consignment piecesLove how the aubergine pillow really makes this cluster of merchandise pop. Try it yourself: cover up that pillow and see how the grouping loses that certain ZING. (Note to self: How could I take a picture and NOT notice the white wicker piece, which I could really USE? What’s more important, helping my consignment peers or furnishing my home? Guess we know the answer.)

No merchandise is an island?I love the way the shop uses “silk” trees as the basis for “island” displays. See how 360 degrees of this grouping is accessible and interesting? More shops should add this vertical ingredient in their display areas.  Go get yourself some trees. Stat.

Groupings of home decor and furniture makes it all look so much better in consignment shops! The effort it takes to show a rug, furniture, and accessories in a “how-to-use” display pays off in not only increased multiple sales, but a better look throughout the shop. Not a mish-mash, but a mix-match!

The owner of The Treasure Chest welcomes to Too Good to be Threw crew!Penny the proprietress in her Florida-casual shirt, selling the inimitable chauffeur-shopping maven Noel a BUNCH of stuff. This exploratory trip was pretty spendy for Noel. Hope she’ll come next time.

See another shop the TGtbT crew explored in Punta Gorda, Kay’s Kloset. Tomorrow, we’ll show you one more shop… a pretty unusual one that I itched to merchandise myself (I think I even dreamed about it.)

Great shop so proud of Penny and the achievement she has made in such a short time. Kay’s Kloset always send customers to her shop, we know they will like what they find.

Love this shop Kate! Great pics too. We usually have trees on consignment. So just ask your consignors to help out, pickers are also great at finding the best trees. Floating room groupings is the bomb, we know we have a hit when we sell everything in the display and have to start a new one. Great problem to have.

You’re right, Ruth: ask and ye shall receive! My dream was always to have plenty of floor electrical outlets, so we could string these trees with fairy lights. And wouldn’t it be FUN to take some not-so-attractive trees and spray them metallic?
