The perfect photo for your web site

October 18, 2012 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

This snapshot by a newspaper reporter is the ideal photo for any resale, consignment or thrift shop. In this case, it’s NFP thrift shop founder Janet Hamilton accepting a donation for Journey Home, her shop which benefits hospice care. But it works equally well for shops which operate by consignment or who buy outright.Thrift shop accepting donations

Shall we name the reasons this photo is so good?

  • The shopkeeper looks happy, approachable, and pleased with accepting the goods.
  • Donations are in a nice, translucent bin (not an old liquor box, the way so many donations are received!)
  • The donator (donee? whatever…) is actually rather anonymous, so those looking at this photo can put themselves in her place.
  • How fortunate that the donator’s vehicle and clothing are dark, and the donated goods are light: makes this photo easy to “read” at a glance.
  • The photo is crisp and clean, just like Janet wants her donations.

What do you think? Could you stage a photo that has all these good points and add it to your web site or blog? Do you think it would help potential suppliers understand a bit more what goods and in what condition you are looking for?
