What money CAN buy you, if not love.

February 13, 2013 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Money may not be able to buy you love, but it can buy you time, if you're a consignment shop owner.Money can’t buy you love, sang the Beatles.

But there’s one thing that money can buy you, and that’s time.

And that’s pretty much the same thing.

Time.

Shopkeepers need it to get established. And to discover what they don’t know, that they never dreamed about before they opened.

Time.

All consignment, resale, and thrift shopkeepers quickly learn that there’s more to do on an hour-to-hour basis than they ever imagined. So they learn, quickly, that they need reliable staff to help with tasks, not only so the place stays clean and organized, but so the owner can devote time to working on the business rather than solely in it.

Time.

Why spend a year or two tweaking your shop layout, promotional calendar,  consignment agreement (all the while, losing business and possibly even customers forever)… when for less than $100, you’ll have the Beginner’s Luck package of operations guidance at your side from Day One? Or from Day 185, if you’ve realized that you need more information and ideas to make your shop be all you dream it can be?

Time.

It takes time for people to find you. Why sit in an empty shop, twiddling your thumbs while the rent meter keeps ticking, when you can get attention from the Resale Directory & Zoomable Map? Why spend time educating potential clients when the How To Consign blog can teach them for you?

Time.

Sure, you could google the universe for hours and days trying to find ideas for retail promotions or display inspiration or how to accept and price in your consignment, resale or thrift shop. And then spend precious time figuring out what truly works, not for retail in general, but for resale. Or to save time, you could hop on over to Products for the Professional Resaler, get a few PDQs, and be reading resale-specific ideas and tips pretty darn quick!

Now that’s showing some true love for your business.

Melissa, do a google search, or even better, a search on pinterest. I’m thinking silver fringe curtains, kinda like this, but that might not be what you have in mind. http://www.orientaltrading.com/silver-fringe-curtain-a2-26_1756-12-1.fltr?Ntt=curtains
