Keeping your cool when there’s fire afoot.

August 17, 2013 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Keeping your cool when there's fire afootYou have to see the progression of this event and how the consignment shop owner is handling it in her social media.

First, read the news story.

Then, read her Facebook posts. Scroll back to about August 8 and read forward in time.

Admirable job of handling the damage without flushing her business down the drain, don’t you agree?

We all make mistakes in our business. We learn, we grow and we move on. It’s how you handle those mistakes that can make or break us. Bravo to her for owning it and moving forward for success in her business. Great story.

Wow where do I start Kate? I had another shop owner from Texas message me saying she was inspired and wanted to congratulate me for being open again. So I asked her how she found out about my story and she sent me a link to this. So Wow- where do I start. First Good morning- this is Kelly from Wear it Again Kids & Family Too! Consignment/Resale- And this story probably started actually 7 years ago. I have been open for 5 but the story probably started 7 years ago when I bought your book Too Good To Be Threw…..I read it, read it, read it, put it down, flipped throught it and probably feel asleep holding it a few nights here and there as well. And so much has happened since…. How did you find my story? Anyway I will write more very soon. Just wanted to first write something and introduce myself to you and your followers!

Hi Kelly, great to hear from you, and as you know, we’re all rooting for your and your local supporters. It’s great to see consumers realizing that a little help from them can keep the community not only viable… but bonded as well!

Interesting way to handle a negative and turn it around to a positive. She did a great job of communicating and keeping folks in the loop. And she kept promoting other small businesses.

Thanks, Ruth. Yes, I was impressed! While the cause of her troubles has me concerned, it does seem that she will be, thanks to loyal supporters, able to rectify the misstep and start afresh. Let’s give her our best wishes.
