Bad consignment resale photo. TGtbT.com helps you make your shop be all you dream it can be.Pithy point for all retailers, ESPECIALLY us consignment, thrift, resale shops, about Facebook convos. Even the negative comments. Thanks, Vertical Response.

Read more about Facebook No-Nos. Pay attention to #5 lest you end up in the TGtbT.com Hall of Shame. (It doesn’t exist yet, but if you keep on posting terrible photos, it will. I have your number. Be afraid, be very afraid of the Resale Guru. Example, this photo, recently posted by a consignment shop to motivate future brides to shop. Heck, I haven’t been a future bride for 45 years and I still find this photo less than, shall we say, motivating?)

Got an opinion? I know you’re not shy, so express it, below. What do YOU find is a Facebook No-No? Or a Facebook Yes-Yes? (My thoughts on Yes-Yeses, tomorrow, so tune in….)

There are not many resale stores that are as glamorous as the full price stores in the pictures you are recommending.

You are SO right… why not? Resale, consignment, and even thrift shops serve as wide a group of consumers as do “real” stores and therefore, could have as wide a range of decor/ service/ amenities.
I have been SO fortunate in my long career in the biz to have seen some truly, truly elegant resale shops. A Cancer Society thrift in the Philadelphia area remains in memory; a small consignment shop in Kansas City had my mouth hanging open; another in Ocala Florida. Here’s a photo I took.Swing shop in a Florida consignment shop

Hi Elwanda, thanks for your observation. Let me explain better:
There’s nothing “wrong” with the photograph of how her merchandise is racked, if she’s simply documenting what her shop looks like. What’s wrong is that no bride-to-be is gonna say “Wow what a gorgeous selection and I must rush right down to this beautiful venue!”
The photo is not a “selling point.” It doesn’t do what the shopkeeper had hoped it would… inspire dreams and yearnings. Example of a better shot would be something like http://www.pinterest.com/pin/139470919680540398/ or http://www.pinterest.com/pin/436919601319522443/
Just like you don’t want to woo a suitor with a shot of you in your every-day at-home attire in an unflattering light, photos meant to woo customers need to be “fluffed up a bit.” Sorry I was unclear, and hope this inspires your shop to “be all you dream it can be”!
