Clear out the best before you clearance the rest

June 17, 2014 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

For all my resale, consignment, and thrift shopkeeper friends who are looking down the barrel of the summer clearance sale (fun, exciting, but hardly profit- and reputation-building, here’s an idea for a theme RIGHT NOW:

Buy Now or Cry Later is your pre-seasonal clearance promo in your consignment or resale shop, says TGtbT.com

“Don’t be a crybaby” subject line for your emails and blog posts and other social media…

Make hangtags with this motto, attach to drastically marked-down things on every rack a few weeks before your no-holds-barred seasonal clearance sale…

Buy now or cry later is like the pre-sale for your most savvy-chic clientele (and your most desirable goods.)

(If you still are uncertain how to clearance volumes of stuff, get this Product for the Professional Resaler.

I looked and looked but couldn’t find the original source of this photo on Pinterest.

I’d love to order some of these signs to hang up permanently. Any suggestions of where I might get the signs done for a good/cheap price?

Glad you like this, Fashion Safari! Check your local print shop (we need to set the example of “Shop Local”, remember) for pricing and availability. Then check online pricing, and if the difference is more than you care to invest in a business neighbor, print the estimate out and take it back to the local place, asking if they can “do better.”

Kate – great suggestion on using local businesses. When I first started I was going to use an online printer, however I am glad I listened to another small business owners advice of going to a local print shop. I am using International Minute Press in Lansing, Mi. Not only are her prices better but we became good friends too. Her staff has been a wealth of information on many things other then print jobs that I did not even think of for a small start up.
