A Final Checklist for Consignment, resale, thrift shopkeepers who aim to freshen up their shops

Now that you’ve read this week’s mini-series on Freshening up your consignment, resale or thrift store, let’s go through a checklist just to make sure we haven’t overlooked anything obvious.
Print out a few copies of Visiting Other Resalers and use the first one to “visit” your own shop.
Don’t forget what your sales counter looks like to your clients. Easy-peasy upgrade to your shop and your customers’ perception of the quality and value you offer.
And a little “freshening up” of your acceptance outlook might be just the ticket, if you suspect you’re just a bit “too nice.”

You’ve cleaned up and spruced up so the shop looks, and operates, the way you have in mind. Now, you just have to give people a reason to visit, to enjoy, to talk about your shop and to motivate others to come see. You have to

Some inexpensive, easy-to-do ideas for getting some excitement going and some new attention focusing on the shop:
- What can they win?
- One of the most effective suggestions I ever had on my blog: dozens of shops used it to great results.
- Banners: How Molly uses them. And videos: How another shopkeeper does it.
- Do you use Facebook to the max?
It truly is not enough to simply be clean and attractive. To get the most traffic in your shop shopping and buying, you need to constantly promote it. Whether that’s advertising, social media, events or a combination of all of them (which is what I recommend!), it’s a major part of your job. Not just something to dream about, but something to carefully plan and execute and examine. You don’t think that word-of-mouth just happens, do you? Give them something to talk about. Liven it up!
