Life’s a challenge

September 8, 2007 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Life’s a challenge, and being a resale shopkeeper in September and October can be the prime example of what Picasso said:

Two Women Running on a Beach by Pablo Picasso

“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.”

This time of year is especially challenging to resalers, as everyone and her daughter and niece is bringing in fall and winter items. One shop wrote on our discussion board that she had looked at 8000 pieces in a day and a half!

Another, taking advice offered on Sharing that at this time of year, it might be better all around to spend less time evaluating individual items for outright purchase and simply look at the batch of goods as a whole, tried it, liked it…and found that she’d lowered her cost of goods by 20%, to say nothing of eliminating stress, saving space, and pleasing her seller!

Thrift shop operators aren’t exempt from the challenges their consignment and resale peers face, either. Their donations pile up, it seems, like mushrooms over a damp night (and sometimes, there’s even mushrooms growing in some less-than-desirable donations!)

Here’s hoping you all view this season as an opportunity for learning 😉 !
