Favorite Thing: New Dressing Room Curtains!

June 20, 2008 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

I’m a great fan of changing one’s consignment shop around quickly and inexpensively. I am also GA-GA on word of mouth. So I suggest that every shop with dressing rooms that have curtains, have a wardrobe of seasonal changes.

I’m not sure what “season” this wonderful tattoo fabric covers, but I think it would be terrific for a vintage, reconstructed, teen-oriented shop… and what word of mouth!

Not your shop’s style? I found a wonderful “kids-pirates-treasure-hunt” fabric (if your shop is childrenswear or has the word “Treasure” in its name), and a slew of other ideas. One thing I love to see is coordinated fabrics: “You’re in the rose dressing room Susan, and Lee I put your things in the lilacs room…” You can coordinate however many dressing rooms you have with prints, awning stripes, polka dots…

Or try some eco-consciousness raising with this leaf print…

The tattoo fabric is available at OldTimerTattoo.com if you can’t find it locally. But check local stores…and let them know what you’re doing, for even more w-of-m!

Making dressing room curtains out of flat sheets is an easy way to make it super-affordable. Can’t sew? Trade a customer’s talent for a shop gift certificate. Or you can take the laziest-resale-shopkeeper way out, as I did, and buy fabric shower curtains!

Change your dressing rooms at least seasonally and generate word-of-mouth every time… a simple and quick way to make your shop look fresh and new and keep your shop’s name on everyone’s lips!

See, now that’s what’s so wonderful about this blog and of course Sharing. I would never have thought about simply doubling up on the curtains to fix the problem…I would have driven myself crazy that evening finding some other curtains that I liked as well that were more opaque.
Thanks for helping me think outside the box!

    Kate,

That is exactly what I did ~ shower curtains! The night that we were all moved in, we hung them up, and turned on the lights and you could see thru them! So, we did have to double up on them. As you can imagine though, after moving a store and then arranging for 2 days…. what could we do but laugh hysterically? Another trip to the store and we were good to go the next morning. Yep ~ we thought we were done but there was one more thing to do…. ahhh the life of a store owner.

I love that I can change them whenever the mood strikes. Easy and fairly inexpensive.

    Thanks for the great blogs.

    Kelly
