The #2 FREE Practically-FREE Edge resale shops have

April 24, 2009 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

This guy says it all…the samenessgoddesswalls, the blandness, of the department stores and malls and big-boxes is killing them.

Regardless of the faults of any consignment, resale, or thrift shop, we can safely say we’re not bland! (Or if we fall into that pit by mistake or misattention sometimes, it’s a simple change that can be made overnight just by getting our Idea File or our copy of ShopSizzle out!)

The writer of that blog post goes at it from his unique perception but I think you’ll agree… RESALE has it ALL over “real stores”  if we just TRY.

Okay, Kate, you’re thinking. That’s the #2 edge we have and yup, it’s practically free. Tell me more…

What’s the #1 Practically-Free Edge you have on “real” stores? That you’re real, of course…you know your clientele, or want to, or at least try to SEEM like you want to. Your customers aren’t invisible to you, as they are to the employees of the chain stores (how often do I have to go in a store before anyone honestly says Hi! Welcome Back! ?)

Secondhand, hometown resalers who capitalize on that: the real-people-helping-real-people aspect…and making DARN sure that their shop doesn’t look like every other retail outlet in their marketplace… they are the shops who are reporting the 30+% increases, even as consumers in general “cut back.” After all shopping’s in our genes. And jeans.

This post is another in the series “I’ve been meaning to tell you…” Read them all here. )
