Wacky Wednesdays Begin TODAY: Win Something!

January 13, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Wacky ideas for resalers welcome at AuntieKate the Blog

Today’s the start of a new feature here on Auntie Kate the Blog/ where Kate gets to hector, lecture, and browbeat the good shopkeepers of Resale-dom. It’s Wacky Wednesday!

All you have to do to be entered into our random drawing is add your helpful comment to this post. What’s your thought, your idea, your angle on today’s topic?

Today’s topic: Spring!

What are you doing to get ready for Spring business in your shop? How are you whetting your customers’ appetites for Spring goods, and how are you attracting Spring-appropriate incoming? Post a tip or hint that your resale peers will find helpful!

What we are giving away:This book should be on your consignment / resale bookshelf right next to Too Good to be Threw The Complete Operations Manual for Resale & Consignment Shops

A copy ofย  Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping by Paco Underhill. This classic has sold more copies than any other retail book in history. Every shopkeeper have a copy in her/his resale business library to refer to again and again.

How to enter Wacky Wednesday:

Just comment here on Auntie Kate the Blog with your best suggestion on today’s topic. It can be short, it can be long, it can even be off-the-wall. What it can’t be is a “me too” type of answer. Let’s hear your imagination talking out loud!

Entries must be received by the following Sunday midnight. One entry per person please.

What happens next: If the minimum number of replies is received* we’ll use randomizer.org to choose the winner…randomly. The winner will be announced on Monday and contacted via the email she/he’s used in the reply posted. If that person doesn’t respond by Tuesday midnight, the prize is forfeited. If there aren’t enough entries to award a prize, the prize will be added to next week’s contest.

*The prize is only given away if at least 20 shopkeepers enter. So Facebook, Twitter, email, or even call your resale peers, tell them about the contest and encourage them to enter. If we don’t receive a minimum of 20 entries for a prize, it will be added to the next week’s giveaway.

So, to recap: Check Wacky Wednesday on Wednesday. Add your contribution here on the blog (not via email, not on Twitter, not on Facebook, not even on Sharing!) and make sure your industry buddies do too. Enter by Sunday. Check back Monday to see if you’ve won.

Update Mon. 1/18: The winner’s announced!

All the usual disclaimers: if the prize turns out to be unavailable I’ll send the winner something just as nice or even nicer. If you aren’t a real or potential resale shopkeeper/ manager/ staffer there’s no way you want the prize anyway. Prizes from folks other than me are the sole responsibility of the company/person donating. If you enter more than once, God will know. Blah blah.

We of course dressed the shop in Green for St week of Patricks Day ( with a t rack of green tops right by the door which sold line crazy all week) and had a “$aving of the Green” Girls Day Out on Mar 17th. Jewelry trunk show, MaryKay was there with Spring lips, free hand massage and of course cho mint mini cupcakes and wine. A great kick off to Spring.

I created a SPRING FEVER discount card on vistaprint. On the front of the card shows the discounts of $10 off any purchase over $50 or $20 off any purchase over $100 (clearance items included)! Each time they shop during March & April they can use a discount card. Plus, the back side of the card is an entry form for the monthly door prizes of a $10-$15-$25 gift certificate. They must enter name, email & phone number to win, therefore…I have their email address to add to my email list for new arrivals, sales, etc.

The other thing I do and get many compliments on is I change my window display at least once a week to entice them to come in and shop!

    Happy Selling!
    Karen

We have such a short winter season here in Florida that we like to celebrate all the chilly days we get – but I am buying easter impulse items to put out Feb. 1st. and putting bright colors out by the road to attract passers-by.

I’m also recruiting wicker, shabby chic, bright photo frames, and greenery to brighten the shop with some themed Spring arrangements:)

    Thanks for the ideas everyone!
