You aren’t a ditto business, are you?

January 24, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

All the glory and none of the work? I don't think so.

There are original businesses and there are ditto businesses. Especially in retail.

And even more especially in resale, where not all shopkeepers have truly steeped themselves in retail education.

Consignment or resale shops that simply copy what “everyone else” does, or who attempt to ride on others’ efforts, get in hot water fast. If they don’t understand why a more-successful shop is doing something, they can’t tailor it to their distinct clientele, can’t make a paying proposition out of it, or alter it when the timing or reason disappears or changes.

Take the time to examine whether some aspects of your business exist simply because of the “ditto factor.”

Are you sure that every part of your business is that way for a valid, business-enhancing and specific- to- your- market reason?

PS Today’s Sunday and that means it’s the last day to get your name in for our Wacky Wednesday Giveaway. Go add your thoughts to the discussion and you might win!

That is very funny, considering the name of my shop!! haha
Hopefully no one would ever say I am a ditto of the next guy. As a matter of fact, often hear the exact opposite.

    Love your posts!
