Wacky Weds: What do you do….

March 3, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Resalers dream of deserted...maybe even nude as in NO CLOTHES to check in...beachesToday’s Wacky Wednesday Giveaway should be easy enough for everyone to answer.

Even resale, thrift and consignment shop owners and managers need to relax SOMEtime, so tell us, for community participation and a chance at our STUNNING prize:

Take a calming breath after spending all day at consigningWhat do you do to relax after an intense day at work?

Because our question this week is about what you do to relax, the Giveaway is something to make not just you, but your customers too, RELAX.  It’s a flamingo decorative flag (perfect for outside your shop, in a window display or on a wall highlighting your incoming summer goods!) just like the one seen here.

Do you relax with a nice meal out with your honey?

Read the rules for our giveaway. Your comment must be posted by midnight Eastern time Sunday March 7 and we must have at least 20 entries (so contact your resale buddies and ask them to enter too!)

Relaxing involves your kids maybe?

Read previous Wacky Wednesday entries and GREAT responses from consignment, thrift, and resale shopkeepers.

Cooling it after a hard day at the thrift shopSo, tell us: what do YOU do to shake off the cares of shopkeeping?

My new years resolution this year was to read more “real books” – had not done that in a long time and am being successful – a book a month. But – my real relaxation time (read not working time) is from the time I start dinner (I like cooking and it’s not work to me) till the kids go to bed – and they like me to play the WII with them as well – many evenings are spent with Mario. 🙂 After they’re in bed read my bookmarked sites and sometimes stream shows I’m interested.

The computer is an extension of me. LOL

When the weather’s nice, I like to sit on the deck with Kenny and watch the mountain and rehash our days. We also like to walk our dogs or take the Harley for a spin. When it’s cold, we sit in front of the fire and I surf the web while Kenny watches tv, or we sit together and read our books. I always tell him we’re turning into his parents, lol.

Since it takes me an hour to get home, the drive is actually relaxing (some country). It gives me time to unwind and think without interruption. I live on a lake, so when I get home and see the water, it has a different calming affect. I love to check all my “bookmarks” on my laptop, which includes networking with all of you!

After a stressful day, the best thing is to visit my two little grandsons, but we can’t always do that.

I like to read to relax, and it also helps me fall asleep. Sometimes if I’m working on a project, I’ll crochet. I like to sew also, but again, unless I have a project going, I don’t do this on a regular basis. Like Marriette, I usually have my laptop nearby and I “surf”. I visit TGTBT, Facebook, news, etc. My husband wonders how I can possibly want to use the computer at night after working all day, but he works on a computer all day so he doesn’t want to use one once he’s home–haha.

Usually, I change into comfy sweats, decide whether to do some yoga, tromp on the trampoline or go for a quick run. Hmmm… sometimes there’s just nothing better than a nice glass of red wine with my hubby, and cozying up to an episode of Globe Trekker (secretly or not so secretly planning my next vacation). I like to finish the night with a hot bath and a short read from my current book club selection – I’ve found that reading at night is more of a sleep aid than a journey into good fiction. After 10-15 minutes, I’ve started to doze off and drift away. And then, start all over again the next day.

I play wii games with my kids (ages 6, 11 and 13)

I play games on the computer!!! I add my tags at end of the day (still no Pos), pay any bills, and watch tv and play computer games for the most part.

so sad when others are doing college and reading!!

I just started a hot yoga class a few weeks ago and LOVE it! 90 minutes where no one can ask me anything, pull on my pant legs (I’ve got a six year old, two year old and five month old), want to nurse, call me on my cell, or require me to otherwise use precious diminishing brain cells. Plus it’s a fabulous workout and an amazing detoxifier. What I love about it is that I get to completely relax, but then feel energized right after.

I have had a lot of stress the last year and a half. Reading has been my escape. A good book that lets me lose myself for a short time has been a life saver.

I started reading that series as a book club selection. I think I read 4 of the books in the series.

Laura, I LOVED that series. Definitely takes you out of yourself, doesn’t it?

  13. on March 3, 2010 at 8:10 pm Laura's avatar Laura

I read! I am currently lost in the Outlander series. 20 minutes of escape to the Highlands of Scotland is a good as a vacation (at least that’s what I tell myself)

These days I go home and dive into homework, as I am also a full-time student. Though the thought of doing homework (and how it’s piled up waiting for me) is stressful, the actual doing of it is relaxing. I can legitimately close the office door to distractions and direct kid-originated requests to dad while I lose myself in the political psychological viewpoint on the conflict in the former Yugoslavia or the inner workings of the tympanic membrane. Yeah, I know…I had you at “tympanic”, right? 🙂

    Get ready for day 2!

I LOVE days when I come home tired, it just means I did well that day and was busy busy busy

It sounds sad, but if I really have a hard/bad day at work, I will just sit in front of the TV and veg.

Other “relaxing” things I might do if I am motivated enough, is go out with friends, read, listen to my oldies, walk my dog, mow the grass or shovel snow.

But like Cynthia, my mind doesn’t stray too far from the store. So even I manage to do any of the above, with the exception of reading, I will have my laptop or notebook in from of me, working on my Newletters, networking, or writing myself notes.

Good grief, I really do need to get a life!

Confession? I don’t do ‘relax’ well and never have. If the weather is lovely about the only thing that qualifies is mowing 5 or 6 acres with a push mower for the exercise or building new garden features. Less than great weather it’s blowing up clay pidgeons shooting skeet or sporting clays and reading. But I still work on the businesses every day and almost every evening.

I love taking my dog to the dog park. It is right on a lake and very tall trees. Something about the fresh air, the expansive and beautiful view and watching him play and be the goof he is puts me in a great mood.

I love going to the movies. It helps me escape everything for a couple of hours at a time.

Head for the gym. The longer and more intense the day the longer I can run on the treadmill!
