Making it real…on tape

April 12, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Do you ever have the feeling that your suppliers need a better way than just words to learn how to consign or sell items to you? That you would like to communicate in a more personable manner?

This shopkeeper has! She’s created a whole series of 1+ minute videos designed to pre-educate her future customers. Take a look…

Click the YouTube logo in the lower right of the screen to see all of Kathy’s videos on her YouTube channel.

What could YOU do like this that would help make your consignment, resale, or donations-only shop better? Bet you have someone…in your family, circle of friends, or customers…who’d enjoy helping you with this! And it’s practically free.

I’ve even seen all-video blogs, a great way to communicate even if you don’t like to write.

You’ve got to give her credit. I love the idea. Not sure I would have the courage. But getting to people with everything you can makes good sense. It’s a proven fact people take in information in many different ways; visually, auditorially, kinesthetically etc. Thanks for finding all these great ideas Kate!

Thanks Lisa! Making and putting a video or any other info on the Internet is not enough, is it? You’ve got to make sure it’s seen, and the competition for viewers out there is…well, let’s call it fierce, shall we?

Being heard and seen through the clutter is KEY. Will a Google searcher find your site? Will a visitor to your area who’s looking for secondhand shopping be led to your site or blog? That’s what SEO is all about: Search Engine Optimization.

It’s a specialty field, for sure. Google that phrase and start to learn. Or ask your web master why YOUR site doesn’t come up on the first page or 2 of results. Nowadays, with all the various big-buck guys like superpages and merchantcircle horning in on your shop’s URL, it’s even harder. Go ahead: Google “how to consign”…there’s even no-count fakers and useless sites trying to coat-tail a site’s success.

What to do? Check your standing in the search engines often, learn to move your shop higher (one very impt key is to have valid links and useful info on your site) and keep one step ahead of your competitors. Roll up your sleeves and work on it.

Jeez, not only do we have to keep up with the fuzzies under the racks, now we have to watch our reputation on the web. πŸ˜‰

The videos are great but hardly anyone is watching them! Most of her videos have less than 20 views even though they have been posted for months (the latest one has more views probably due to Kate’s post).

We did this for a while and had the same poor results. We still do videos but use them exclusively for marketing purposes.
