One cake stand makes a nice showcase riser. A multi-tiered one works 3 times as hard. (Just skip the pine cones and add pearls.)
Or use anything sturdy and upright (a footed beer mug?) and something relatively flat (a glass plate?). Once you’ve got the idea down pat, branch out into more elaborate creations.
Here’s some home-spun ideas:

Afraid of heights? Here’s the lowdown on a cute idea borrowed from Martha Stewart.

They are SO easy to make. Just ask Kim, formerly of Wallabies Kids, who put a bunch together for me, lol. I shipped her the separate pieces, all labeled with what base went with what plate, and she glued them for me. We used them at our daughter’s wedding at St Pete’s beach a couple of weeks ago. I gave them away to any guest who wanted one, and sadly had to leave a few at the hotel. It was fun collecting all the pieces to put together. I don’t think I spent over $2 for any one piece.
I’ve also made them for my shop. We use them for all kinds of displays – even shoes.
Well, you CAN’T HAVE them ;). The swoopy blue bowl is one of a pair bought at Woman’s Exchange, an NFP consignment shop I volunteer at (I think both were $6) and the Bennington platter was purchased at the Bennington Pottery outlet in Vermont back when I was a newlywed, just before I became a newlydivorced.
He got the dog I got the platter.
Kate, I don’t know about anyone else, but seeing these vintage pieces makes me think of my mom and my grandma, who both live with the angels now…
I get warm fuzzies and it makes me want to reach out and remember…and, maybe, even buy something while I’m in such a good mood.
You’re not selling the sizzle, here, you are selling the good memories…and creating some new ones with new “treasures”, too! LOVE THIS TIP!
