Such style this NYC shop has…Tokyo Rebel!… and their overhead expenses I am sure would cause most consignment, resale, thrift shopkeepers to break out into a rash. Just the framed poster had to cost a pretty penny.
So why did they buy their open and hours signs from the nearest office-supply store?
What does a generic OPEN or HOURS sign say to the onlooker? This is a low quality, unoriginal, lazy kind of shop. That’s not the message you want to convey is it? Those thin plastic open signs, those write-on-with-marker hours signs… do they really do anything for your image? Pulll-eeeze.

I love the ‘open’ sign. Anyone know where to find a similar sign?
Love the “please keep shopping” wording! I would consider, though, that the glass etching idea wouldn’t make the message as obvious as the “stained glass paint”…which I’ve never used, but which sounds bolder! Especially if outlined inn black…
Love the “shut” sign! I might steal that one… hope no one minds 😉
I’ve been thinking about stenciling or hand lettering some of our store signs. For instance, we have a back room and the sign on the door says “please keep shopping” with an arrow pointing back through. Wouldn’t it look cute to use stained glass paints or maybe that glass etching compound (it’s a swinging glass door) to replace my tired old sign with something more appealing?
