Everyone’s a winner (or can be) at consignment and resale shops!

August 30, 2010 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Everyone's a winner at consignment shops! This tip is so simple, I smacked my forehead when I read it. Isn’t it amazing, how something so obvious can just escape us?

I’m sure we can all agree that everyone wants to feel like a winner.

And that if we can make our customers feel like they’ve won something, they’ll be happier, and they’ll tell their friends and just overall, skies will be bluer and birds chirpier.

Here’s how you make each and every customer a winner (it’s so obvious! Did I say that before?):

Let’s say you’re having one of those pick-a-discount events. They can choose an egg, a lollipop, whatever, and your advertising and signage tells them they’ll get 10%, 20%, 30% off today’s purchase.

Well, all you have to do…is not put any 10% slips in the mix. Make them ALL more than the lowest percentage you have promoted.

That way, everyone wins, and no one thinks aw shucks, I got the lowest discount possible.

They’re thrilled, you’re happy, the story of their good luck gets told over lunch tables and desks and sales counters.

But do not let the secret out or you’re ruin it. That probably includes not telling your staff, helpers, volunteers in the shop. Loose lips, etc.

Kate, Just gotta say- I’m learning a lot from you, every time I read something, everything becomes a little clearer. I will be starting my business soon and need all the help I can get. Your advice and words are my new bible, as of course “trial and error” will be as well! Right now I’m just sucking it all in!

Thank you, and keep it coming!
    Kim

Thanks Kim! I try really hard to make sure my resale shopkeeper friends AVOID “trial and error” as much as possible, and approach their businesses with knowledge on hand. Trial and error can be EXPENSIVE: mis-spent equipment and advertising costs, time lost on doing social media that doesn’t work, choosing procedures that eat up time that could have been spent advancing the business rather than hassling with situations of their own making.
Knowing that I’ve helped you gives me the warm fuzzies! Thanks for letting me know Too Good to be Threw makes a difference!

What a great way to make the customer feel like they won and got a great deal. This also makes them want to come back in. Everyone loves a sale!
